SOX-10 (Sry-relaed HMG-BOX gene 10) is a nuclear transcription factor involved in the development of nerves and the differentiation of melanocyte cell lines. It has recently been shown to be a sensitive marker for melanoma (including conventional, fusiform, and connective tissue hyperplasia). SOX-10 is expressed in 97% of melanomas and 49% of malignant schwannomas. SOX-10 is often expressed to be positive in connective tissue hyperplasia and spindle cell melanoma, but negative in HMB45 and MelanA.
