MLH1 IHC, or Immunohistochemistry for MLH1, is a diagnostic technique used in the field of pathology and molecular medicine to assess the expression of the MLH1 protein in tissue samples. MLH1 is one of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes, and its protein product plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the DNA in our cells by repairing errors that occur during DNA replication.
The MLH1 gene is particularly important in the prevention of genomic instability and the development of various cancers, especially colorectal cancer and endometrial cancer. Mutations or epigenetic silencing of MLH1 can lead to MMR deficiency, increasing the risk of these cancers.
